This project aims to understand the opportunities and productive potential based on the local economy, particularly in the field of agri-food resources based on animal production (meat and milk), vegetables, fruits, olives, nuts, wine, forest and native flora, and medicinal plants. The INTERACT Project is a unique case of integration of multiple agroforestry and zootechnical production processes, also taking into account the underlying environmental factors of the Northern Region of Portugal. Within INTERACT’s global proposal, we find 3 linked lines of research: the Innovation Line for Sustainable Agrifood Chains (ISAC), in conjunction with two other lines: Bioeconomy and Sustainability (BEST) and Sustainable Viticulture and Wine Production (VitalyWine). These lines are in close connection with CITAB’s Research groups, joined by other specialists in the areas of socio-economics, chemistry, ecology, geology, molecular biology or veterinary sciences, thus participating several researchers from other UTAD centers, namely the Chemistry Center, CETRAD or CECAV.
